At just 13 years old, Ayaamii Sledge is already making waves in the entertainment industry. Hailing from the vibrant city of Chicago but now calling Riverside home, Ayaamii's journey into acting is as captivating as the diverse roster of roles she portrays on screen.
From a young age, Ayaamii, the second youngest of four siblings, was surrounded by immense creativity and talent, with her family serving as the backbone of her budding career. With inspiration from her recording artist and studio producer father and a coinciding love for the craft of acting with her little sister, Ayaamii was destined for the spotlight. Her artistic journey began with auditions in Los Angeles, where she quickly made her mark with her undeniable talent and infectious energy.
Ayaamii's first role was in a heartwarming 2018 viral commercial, which received an incredible reception. Sledge's newest role is that of Melissa Crandell in the 2024 remake of the 90's classic "Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead" alongside iconic stars such as Nicole Richie, June Squibb, and Jermaine Fowler. The film follows a young girl who finds her summer plans canceled when her mom jets off for a last-minute retreat, and the elderly babysitter who arrives at her door unexpectedly passes away. Embracing the challenge of portraying a character different from herself, Ayaamii immersed herself in the role of Melissa, a self-contained, introverted goth/gamer who helps dispose of a body, delivering a performance that will captivate audiences. Sledge reminisces on the effusive energy that the set of the film contained, which made the creative process even more engaging, energetic, and collaborative.
Ayaamii's versatility is expansive. With roles on some of television and streaming's most popular shows, including the emotional role of a young Angela Bassett on "9-1-1," "The Rookie," "Sydney to the Max," and a young Jedi on Disney's "Obi-Wan Kenobi," she has had a unique opportunity to explore a multitude of creative universes, making sure to take advice from each set on which she works. Notably, actor Nathan Fillion imparted impactful advice on the set of "The Rookie," which was to "Speak to everyone, be kind, listen, learn their names." Her work on the set of "Home Economics" as a young Serena Williams was a thrilling experience that helped her gain comfort amongst a live audience, and her first historical piece of work as a young Octavia Spencer in "Truth Be Told" earned critical acclaim. Sledge has additionally been praised for her incredible work playing the inquisitive Sydney in "Upshaws" to the spirited Nadine in "Grand Crew," she continues to showcase her range and depth as an actress. Whether delving into the lore of an intergalactic universe or unraveling family secrets, Ayaamii approaches each role with passion and dedication.
Off-screen, Ayaamii is a multi-talented young artist who loves all things music. When she's not on set, you can find her crocheting, singing a lovely song, or hanging out with friends.
Ayaamii Sledge's aspirations know no bounds. Eager to take on new challenges, she dreams of starring in a horror movie or show, pushing herself to explore new territories and expand her repertoire. As she continues to charm and impress audiences, there's no doubt that Ayaamii is destined for greatness in the entertainment world.
